Bra Cup Sizes Explained

A gentle, complete guide to every cup size — from A to G

Your bra cup size is the volume of your breasts, shown as a letter (A, B, C and up) that is always read together with the band number. Cup size comes from the difference between your bust and underbust measurement — roughly one inch for each cup. This guide explains every size from A to G, and helps you find yours.

What is a bra cup size?

A cup size represents how much fuller your bust is compared with the measurement directly under your bust. The band is the number (34, 36 — or 75, 80 in cm sizing) and the cup is the letter. The same cup letter means different volumes on different bands, which is why cup and band are always read together.

How is cup size measured?

  1. Measure your underbust snugly, just under the bust — this gives your band.
  2. Measure your bust at the fullest point, keeping the tape level.
  3. Subtract band from bust. The difference gives your cup: ~1in = A, 2in = B, 3in = C, 4in = D, 5in = DD/E, 6in = F, 7in = G.

Bra cup size chart: A to G

Bust − Band difference Cup Approx. (cm) What it usually means
1 inch A ~2.5 cm Smaller cup depth
2 inches B ~5 cm Slightly fuller than A
3 inches C ~7.5 cm Moderate cup depth
4 inches D ~10 cm Fuller cup depth
5 inches DD / E ~12.5 cm Fuller bust range; naming varies
6 inches F ~15 cm Fuller cup, support matters
7 inches G ~17.5 cm Fuller cup, fit & coverage matter

Cup letters can vary slightly between brands and between UK/US and EU/Asian (cm) systems — always check the brand's own chart.

Why is the same cup letter not always the same size?

The same cup letter changes volume when the band changes. A 32C, 34C and 36C all use the letter C, but the cup volume increases as the band gets larger. This is why cup size should never be read without the band.

Size Cup letter Cup volume relationship
32C C Smaller band, smaller C volume
34C C Medium band, medium C volume
36C C Larger band, larger C volume

This is also the basis of sister sizing — keeping the cup volume while changing the band.

SG / MY bra sizing: 34C vs 75C explained

In Singapore and Malaysia you will see two systems side by side. 34C is the inch-based band; 75C is the cm-based equivalent — they describe a similar fit. When shopping locally, match your measurements to the brand's chart rather than assuming the letter alone is enough. See our bra size converter (34/75, 80B, 70C).

Do cup letters mean the same in every country?

Cup letters can vary between UK, US, EU and Asian size systems, especially around DD, E, F and G. In SG/MY, shoppers may see both inch-based sizes such as 34C and cm-based sizes such as 75C. Always compare your own measurements with the brand's size chart before choosing.

How cup sizes compare

How to choose a bra by cup size

Smaller cups (A–B) have more freedom in style and often suit wireless, lightly lined or seamless bras. Fuller cups (D–G) usually feel best with wider straps, fuller coverage and good side support. Whatever your cup, the band should sit level and snug, and the cups should fully contain the bust without gaping or spilling over.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my cup size?

Measure your underbust (band) and your bust at the fullest point, then subtract. Each inch of difference is about one cup size: 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=DD/E, 6=F, 7=G.

Is the same cup letter always the same size?

No. Cup volume changes with the band. A 34C and a 36C share the letter but the 36C has a larger cup. Always read cup and band together.

What is the difference between cup size and bra size?

Bra size includes both the band number and the cup letter, such as 34C. Cup size is only the letter part, and it should not be read alone.

Is DD the same as E cup?

Not always. In some sizing systems DD and E are used differently. Always check the brand's own size chart, especially around DD, E and F.

What is a sister size?

A sister size keeps the same cup volume while changing the band — for example 34C, 32D and 36B are sister sizes. Useful if the band feels tight or loose but the cups fit.

What does 34 or 75 mean on a bra?

Both are band sizes. 34 is the inch-based number and 75 is the cm-based equivalent. In Singapore and Malaysia you will see both systems.

What if I am between two cup sizes?

Check how the cups feel when worn. If there is gaping, try a smaller cup or sister size. If there is overflow, try a larger cup or a style with more coverage.

Which cup size is considered big?

It depends on the band too. Generally D and above is considered fuller-bust, but a D on a small band can look different from a D on a larger band.
